Smart Scrap ("we", "us") runs the Smart Scrap app and thesmartscrap.com, a marketplace where people sell scrap to nearby dealers. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and the choices you have. It follows India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the IT Rules, 2011. What we collect and why

We do not collect your card or bank account numbers. Payments go through a licensed payment gateway, [PAYMENT GATEWAY NAME], under its own policy. We do not sell your personal data and we do not show third-party ads.
Who we share it with
- The other side of your deal. Nearby verified dealers see your items, photos, rough quantity and area, not your exact address or phone number. After you book a dealer, that dealer sees your name and pickup address, but not your phone number. The dealer can call you only through the app's private calling, which hides both numbers. You see the dealer's phone number so you can call them directly.
- Society group members see each other's flat number and quantity. The organiser sees the full list.
- Service providers who run parts of the app for us, only for that purpose: cloud hosting and database (Google Firebase), OTP SMS delivery, the private calling provider, the payment gateway and crash reporting.
- Authorised recyclers, only for business pickups that need a collection or e-waste certificate.
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Account details: while your account is active.
- Pickup, payment, invoice and chat records: up to 3 years after the pickup, for disputes, tax and accounting.
- Dealer verification documents: while the dealer is active, then up to 1 year.
- When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your data within 30 days, except records the law requires us to keep.
How we protect it
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and stored on Google Cloud servers, with access limited to people who need it to run Smart Scrap. If a breach affects your data, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.
Your rights and choices
- See or correct your data: edit your profile in the app, or email us.
- Delete your account: in the app go to Profile › Delete account, or email us to request deletion.
- Withdraw consent: turn off location or photo access in your phone settings at any time. You can then pick your area manually.
- Nominate someone to exercise these rights for you in case of death or incapacity.
- Complain: contact our Grievance Officer below. If you're not satisfied, you can approach the Data Protection Board of India.
Children
Smart Scrap is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you think a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We will post changes on this page and update the date at the top. If a change significantly affects how we use your data, we will tell you in the app first.
